The Last Man Standing

I recently viewed “Once Were Brothers,” a documentary about The Band. This is my tribute to those men and to all who are still making music. As of this writing, only Garth Hudson survives. Play on, Garth!

It was a rowdy kinship, brothers of the road
And sawdust joints where whiskey and loud rockabilly flowed.
Their bond grew tight, their chops grew tighter as they honed a sound
That married southern deltas with the grit of northern ground.

In a time when jukebox artists sprouted golden wings,
When poetry took flight in song and writers became kings,
They saw the North Star shifting for the music of the day
And they followed it to chart a style no one had ever played.

Here’s to the last man standing…
